Rock Hill has been chosen as a "showcase city" by the National League of Cities, which cited the planned Riverwalk development and its world-class cycling center.
Rock Hill was one of six cities highlighted in the group's economic development category and will be featured as a model at the organization's event in November.
Other winners included a flexible incentive program in Boulder, Colo.; the Potosi Brewery Restoration in Potosi, Wisc., and Virginia Beach as a green destination.

Plans for the 315-acre Riverwalk Business Park will kick off a 10-year project to bring a self-contained $600 million mixed-use community to Rock Hill.
The plans for Riverwalk on the Catawba River call for a range of lifestyle amenities focused on biking, walking and other activities within a few blocks from homes and businesses.
When you add the riverfront to the site, its truly unique, says Dave Williams, partner at project owner Assure Group of Companies of Cincinnati.
Riverwalks residential component will start with the sale of 90 single-family lots to an approved builder list. Williams has letters of intent with Saussy Burbank, David Weekley Homes, Evans Coghill Homes and S.E. Miller Homes.
Homes are expected to sell in the low $200,000s to the $400,000s.
The single-family homes, along with 50 townhomes, will be available for the first Riverwalk residents by mid-2011, Williams says. Hes been talking to developers about building those units but he has no agreement.
At the same time, Riverwalk plans to open four bicycling sites in the development. They include a Velodrome racing track, a BMX Supercross course, a cyclo-cross track and a mountain-biking course.
The idea of including such activities is to help improve health and wellness among Rock Hill area residents and Riverwalk residents in particular, Williams says. He says the company wants to turn Riverwalk into the cycling and outdoor center of the Carolinas.
A 2.5-mile walking and biking trail along the Catawba opened earlier this year. It will be linked to the Charlotte regions Carolina Thread Trail.
When complete, Riverwalk will include 770 single-family homes, 300 townhouses and 500 apartments. A commercial town center district will contain 650,000 square feet in office and retail development.
The first element that could likely find tenants is the 315-acre Riverwalk Business Park.
Also planned for Riverwalk are spaces for a public elementary school, a YMCA, and a kayak and canoe launching area on the river.
